Great writing. Excellently descriptive and a good mixture of emotions. The writer exuded a rich understanding of th American and West African cultures and showed how diversity is refreshing when rightly portrayed. Beautiful body of art. Thumbs up! ~Balogun Ridwan Adetayo
Wow! DeShield pens a remarkably unputdownable story in Who is Ma Kemah? I have read work from this author before, and I really enjoyed it, but this, yes, it’s a Wow. Ma Kemah is an unforgettable character, who had struggles growing up and into adult life, being raised in Africa, Liberia to be exact. She took her tragedies and set goals for herself to start a new chapter. I really loved this story, more than loved, and it was written so well, I felt I knew who Ma Kemah is, and would enjoy her company. It’s a magnificent story, making me wonder the author’s inspiration for the book. Ma Kemah George will not be forgotten by me. The author does a wonderful job of showing the story, and making the reader feel the emotions within the story. If you love a good empowering woman story (and its much more), this book should be next on your list. The title drew me in, but the story made me stay. I wanted to know who Ma Kemah is, and I did. This author has a great imagination and I’m glad it’s being shared with stories. This read is more than just words on a page. So, far it’s my favorite of all DeShields’s books, though I enjoyed all the ones I have read. I am a true fan! Who is Ma Kemah? is a definite recommendation by Amy’s Bookshelf Reviews. I look forward to reading many more stories by this author. ~ Amy Shannon
Hooked from page 1, couldn’t put it down so sad to leave these characters… ~ LindaI fell in love with Ma Kemah’s character right from the very beginning of the book. She was easy to like and root for… I felt her pain when she lost Vincent and I couldn’t help but cry about how unfair life was to her. ~Mariam Bhadmus
Man, did I eat this book up the same day I bought it? Hell yeah. First of all, I want to thank the author for leaving signed copies of this book at Booksellers. It’s the first signed book I own. This book made me realize that there are so many similarities between us Nigerians and other West African countries, from the mannerisms to some slangs. It’s very, very interesting, and it didn’t seem new to me. I really love the way this book was written. Everything was so fluid, flowing through smoothly. ~ Lola
#whoismakemah I felt the pain. I felt the joy. Excellent writing, Sianah DeShield. ~ Ìyanuolúwa Adegboyega

I remember walking past the bookshop and seeing the cover “Who is Ma kemah?” I got intrigued wondering who she really was. It turned out to be a book and the best 4 hours of my day. Sianah really touched a part of womanhood we don’t really talk about, their resilience, Ma Kemah never gave up and you shouldn’t too, you could learn a thing from her and it’s spicy too

I love Warren and Ma Kemah’s relationship, it screams genuine connection. Kemah is such a yapper; I can’t forget how shocked I was when she used almost four pages to describe how her sisters are with money, or when she introduced her roommates to her boyfriend’s friends individually with details! Like DETAILS! I was like, Girl? We are talking too much, aren’t we? LOL But I love her like that; she’s just a girl. And she’s so strong. Her experiences and strength meant the world to me, especially if you’ve experienced something similar to hers as a young child.
Warren, at a point, was a bit lost, but he’s just a boy doing life for the first time and was confused. So I don’t blame him. Thanks to his parents and friends (more like brothers) for setting him straight. I realized he would do anything just to make Ma Kemah happy and comfortable. He is so precious.
I wasn’t even mad at any character in this book. In fact, I was mad at Warren a little for what he did to Amanda on live. That shows I don’t even hate her enough to want her to feel humiliated.
But all in all, if you love celebrity, strangers to lovers, little spice and forbidden romance, you should pick this up.
Note: Be sure to read the trigger warnings before moving on ☺️.

I remember walking up into a room and meeting the author, as a non-reader, even though it took me days to finish up the book. It was really a good read. The character displayed an amazing amount of similarities with our cultures in Africa and the romance was impeccable. A good book to read

This book is my Roman Empire, I think about it every day. I wasn’t a big fan of MA KEMAH but I still loved her character and MATI Ma Kemah’s sister is my favourite character even though we didn’t get to know much about her. Overall Who is Ma Kemah is a book everyone should read it is too good.
