What People Are Saying

Dramatic, intriguing, and educative. Not every day do we read a book that is African-inspired. I was super excited when I got a copy of this intriguing and heart-stopping dramatic book. Sianah didn’t disappoint me at all. The Carter girls’ lives are so exciting that it makes me laugh and feel emotional at the same time. Seeing our African culture portrayed in this romantic book—the food, the tradition, the dialogues—I am inspired to do my continent proud. ‘Thou Shalt Love’ is the book you do want to get. I love it, and I can’t wait to see what will happen next in book two. ~ AC (United States)

I absolutely loved this book. It is really well written and I have connected, with Susan and Mildred, and fell for their stories and personalities. I relate a lot to them both, and I can’t wait to get more of them… The characters are so charismatic and grandma Louise reminds me so much of mine. It’s my 1st African contemporary romance that I read in English, and I recommend it to everyone already. ~ Odette Charlene

There are so many things I loved about this book. First, I enjoyed and appreciated the setting being in a different country and culture. It has been a long time since I read a book that featured different ethnic backgrounds which still allowed the novel to be relatable. Another thing is the realness of the struggles both girls were going through. It didn’t matter that they were rich, powerful, and successful women, they still had their trials and tribulation that made them feel weak and insecure. Sometimes we can find ourselves judging others based on the decisions they make, but this novel helps readers understand that even the strongest people fall down sometimes. Lastly, the family relationship and bonds between not only the sisters but the grandmother as well was beautiful.  I love healthy relationships between strong women, they support they showed each other even when they were angry displayed the deep-rooted love they all shared. I highly recommend this read, its beautiful display of women overcoming. ~ D.T. Williams

This book is everything! The writer had me glued for the past two days doing nothing but reading only this book. The storylines and topics are all so relatable. Finally, someone bravely shed light on these ‘swept under the rug’ issues in our society but also in an entertaining way. Looking forward to part two. ~ Delou Gonsanzeo (United Kingdom)

I loved this this Romantic Steamy Romantic Novel. The characters were so realistic. I would smile, laugh, get mad, etc., (except want to hit the wall… too early in the book! ). I hope that the next book is just as good. ~ Reading Neffie

DeShield’s book Thou Shalt Love is full of emotions and intensities that life brings. It revolves around the lives of the Carter sisters, and how they face life’s challenges, and secrets. First, the story is well-put together and easy to follow and fall in love with the characters. Second, there is a sense of reality and realism, and it makes the story and characters relatable. I enjoyed this story, and look forward to reading more of DeSheild’s work. ~ Amy’s Bookshelf Reviews

Unputdownable! Relatable modern African story that explores themes of love, sexuality, domestic violence and addiction. Impressive and fearless story telling. Warning though: it’s better read in bed ~ Saaji

I’m totally amazed by the brilliance of the author and how she presents real-life relationship situations in her first book. Even though both the male and female characters are flawed in attributes, many are hurting individually and express such hurts in manners unpleasant. However, people are only longing for salvation (saving themselves from personal demons). This book has personally opened to me a whole new world of seeing relationships and people from a perspective I’ve never known. Sianah Nalika DeShield is a very skilled storyteller. Excellent piece of work. ~ Michael Cassell
