Romanticize Your Life: Your Intentional Guide To Main Character Energy
Have you ever watched a movie and felt captivated by the lead character? The lead character is confident, magnetic, interesting, and fully in control of their story, whether it’s a sad story or a happy one. That’s exactly what it feels like when you step into your Main Character Energy. It’s about shifting from living your life on autopilot to intentionally creating moments that make you feel empowered, seen, and unstoppable in your own weird way or not. Whether it’s in your career, relationships, or daily routines, embracing this mindset helps you stop playing a side role and start owning the spotlight in your own life.
And because I am all about helping my friends around the world be confident and live their best lives, one way I have been able to achieve that is through self-care.
First, let’s be clear. I do not light candles at 5:00 a.m. or p.m. or whenever. I have two toddlers, and personally, I am too afraid of accidentally burning something. I do not journal in cursive. Well, I journal a lot and partly write in cursive, but that is not the point.
I do not sip moon water on a Santorini balcony, although that sounds like something I was born to enjoy. And my kitchen? Girl, please. It is not “aesthetic” right now. But let me tell you, I am already thanking God for the gorgeous one coming soon. In the meantime, I treat this current kitchen like it is heaven. Why? Because you do not have to live large to be the main character in a story that was written by your creator with your name on it. You just need to live clean, well, and decently.
I am a regular woman, navigating daily chaos. But I found a way to be the main character in my life and romanticize it by embracing order. It does not require a passport, flight tickets that I can’t afford, or a ring light. Aesthetic kitchen cabinets are not even required. Although they help, I won’t lie.
One bold decision made it happen. I am the main character now. Period! Thank you. Guess what? You are, too. Anyway, here is how to unlock your main character’s energy through mindful daily habits in a way that feels authentic and empowering.
The Undeniable Power of Choosing to be the main character
You know that feeling when you watch a movie, and the main character just gets it? They find beauty in the mundane. They find joy in the simple. They find purpose in their everyday lives. That is what we aim for when we say romanticize your life. You are not escaping reality, sis. You are embracing it with a new lens. Shift your perspective from “Ugh, another Monday.” Instead, say, “It’s a beautiful day to be employed! Oh, you Monday, you bring me joy, peace, and laughter. All things will work in my favor today.” Check out my Printable Daily Commands Prayers Cards to speak into existence what you want your day to bring you.
The world constantly tells us to hustle harder. It says to achieve more. It advises buying the next big thing. Choosing to be positive is revolutionary in this environment. It challenges the notion that happiness is something we derive from others or material possessions. Happiness, joy, and even dramatic flair live right here. They are in your ordered home. They are in your well-cared-for body. They are in your calm mind. He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters. ~ Psalm 23:2.
Think about it. We spend so much time waiting for “the big stuff”. We wait for the promotion, vacation, and the perfect relationship. But what about all the moments in between? The quiet mornings, the productive evenings, the daily tasks, and the unexpected laughs? These moments truly make up our lives. When you learn to appreciate life, you savor these ordinary fragments. You turn them into something extraordinary. It is like discovering hidden gems in your daily routine.
This is not about ignoring problems. It is not about pretending everything is perfect. We know life throws serious curveballs. Romanticizing your life, or being the main character of your story, means acknowledging the struggles. Then, you choose to find glimmers of light. You find pockets of peace. You find moments of genuine appreciation amidst the storm. You build resilience, and you train your brain to seek beauty over the chaos. Do it even when things get tough. You deserve this gentle magic. Allow yourself to be the main character instead of just waiting for stuff to happen.
So, What Does “Romanticize Your Life” Actually Mean? (Beyond the Filters)
TikTok’s soft-filtered propaganda is misleading. Romanticizing your life does not mean pretending to be in a movie 24/7. It means choosing to see your ordinary life by using a more loving, intentional, sometimes slightly dramatic lens. Be present. Find joy in the everyday. Do not constantly chase an idealized future.
Stop waiting for the perfect moment. Realize this moment is it.
- Is your bed neatly made? That’s a foundation for a clear mind.
- Is your kitchen clean and tidy? You need your sanctuary of order.
- Have you showered twice today? It is a testament of self-respect.
You are not faking joy. You are finding it. Find it even in the most demanding parts of your day. Understand that your life is worth being romanticized. And everyone, no matter how boring you think you are, is the main character of their story. All its efforts and commitments. You are not just a background character. You are the star, darling. It is time to act like it.
Why It Works (Yes, Even for You, Sis)
You might think, “My life is chaotic. I’m busy. Can I romanticize your life?” The answer is a resounding YES. Here is why it works, even for the most wonderfully productive among us:
- It increases joy. Consciously seek moments to romanticize your life. Those small actions become celebrations. That perfectly made bed is not just tidy. It is a peaceful start to your day.
- It builds mindfulness. You start noticing your life. You stop sleepwalking through your life. Suddenly, sunlight hitting your clean countertop becomes noteworthy. The scent of a fresh DIY body spray becomes something you observe. It boosts self-worth. Act like you matter. Act like your life is worthy of beautiful moments. You’ll eventually start believing it. This is not about ego. It is about healthy self-esteem.
- It helps you fall in love with yourself all over again. Your story is unique. It is busy, beautiful, and completely yours. Why chase someone else’s aesthetic? Fall head over heels for your own.
5 Intentional Ways to Get in Your Main Character Energy and Romanticize Your Life
Let’s get real. This is for the woman who:
- Manages a bustling household.
- Finds calm in a clean space.
- Knows self-care builds strength.
If that is you, actively trying to improve feels empowering. These tips are designed for impactful action.
- Structure Your Space, Clear Your Mind
Your environment impacts your mind. A tidy space leads to a clearer head. Start with your bed. Make it, even after the school drop-off. This small act signals completion. It sets a positive tone for your return. Later, tackle the dishes. Vacuum or mop the floors. These are not just chores. They are acts of creating order. Each clean surface adds structure to your brain.
- Self-care bonus: Finishing these tasks offers a sense of accomplishment. It removes mental clutter. You create a peaceful haven.
- Elevate Your Post-Chore Shower Ritual
You just tackled chores. Now, honor your body. Step into the shower. Make it a deliberate act of cleansing and renewal. Shave your legs. Yes, even there, sis. Take time for intimate hygiene. And if you are not exactly sure what that should look like, or if you have just been going with the “the vagina cleans itself” crew, it is time to level up. Girl, Wash Your VJJ is the guide every woman did not know she desperately needed. It breaks down how to properly care for your most sacred space with honesty, humor, and tradition. Do not just guess—know. Your Vagina deserves better. Grab the guide. Your body (and future self) will thank you.
Wash your body twice a day. Use a good moisturizing body scrub. Check out my body scrub recipe here. Then, rub gently a good lotion or body oil. After that, don’t forget to use a deodorant and hair perfume. All of these you can make yourself. Check out my DIY category. There are gems in there. This daily routine refreshes your spirit. It prepares you for whatever comes next.
- Dress for Your Day, Even at Home
After your shower, your self-care continues. Apply a body spray you genuinely like. Oil your hair. Choose simple, clean, and decent house clothes, not your faded pajamas. Not that old, stained t-shirt. Look, I am not saying you should be formal. Even though you can if you want. What I am saying is be respectful to yourself by trying to take your looks seriously, even at home. Smelling good in your home makes you feel good. It prepares you for the day. It makes you show up for yourself.
- Create Sensory Sanctuaries from Simple Things
Engage all your senses in romanticizing your space. Clean sheets on your bed offer immediate comfort. I love white. It is a personal preference for my household, long since I was a single woman without kids. And yes, I have toddler boys who sleep on white sheets as well. It is normal in my home, and I have not had any reason to change that. I just believe that my bed should be as comfortable as any five-star hotel bed. You cannot tell me anything against that. A good bed promises restorative sleep. That’s why I personally recommend Sleep and Beyond beddings. Check them out and order, and your life will forever be changed.
Use a good body spray in the evening. This creates a mood shift. It signals relaxation and puts you in a good mood. Light a scented candle if that’s your thing. But if you are a toddler mom like me, stick to essential oil diffusers that are lightweight and won’t be too strong for your children.
Play calming music, maybe a free playlist online. These are small but powerful luxuries. They make life feel easy. You do not need complex grandeur. What you need is consistent and thoughtful touches.
- Intentionality with Journaling
I created this gorgeous printable Self-help journal and Personal Growth Planner for this reason. It is for intentionally designing your main character’s story. Think of it as your script, storyboard, or director’s notes all rolled into one.
- Schedule Your Self-Care: Block out time for these intentional habits. “7:00 PM: Quick clean-up & shower routine.” “9:00 AM: Bed making & shower routine.” When it is scheduled, you are more likely to do it.
- Track Your Mood Shifts: Note how these actions impact your mood. “Bed made, felt calmer.” “Clean kitchen, mind felt clear.” This reinforces the positive impact.
- Plan Your “Atmosphere Enhancers”: List what scents, sounds, or textures you want to incorporate daily or weekly.
More Ways to Level Up Your Main Character Energy (Without Breaking the Bank)
Beyond the daily routines, here are a few more things you can fold into your life. They help you to truly be the main character and romanticize your life every single day. They make you feel seen, powerful, and utterly in control of your narrative.
- The “Tea Cup Reset”
You finish your morning coffee or tea. Do not let the empty mug sit there. Rinse it immediately. Put it in the dishwasher or wash it by hand. This tiny act prevents clutter. It signals to your brain that you have completed tasks. It is a small victory. It keeps your space tidy. It keeps your mind clear.
- Hydrate with Intention
Grab your fruits and throw them into your juicer or blender after you wash them, of course. Make yourself a healthy fruit juice, or grab some hibiscus and cinnamon, and other ingredients you like, and make a quick tea. Do not just chug water all day. Take in hydrating teas without processed sugar. Use dates or other natural sweeteners if you have a sweet tongue. Get your electrolytes strong, your body refueled. Drink more of that kind of water. It nourishes you. It keeps you clear-headed. Add a slice of lemon or cucumber to your plain glass of water if you must.
- Curate Your Digital Space
Your phone, laptop, and inbox are some of the things you must pay attention to. These are also part of your daily environment. Delete old photos you do not need. Unsubscribe from annoying emails. Organize your desktop. A tidy digital space clears mental clutter. It reduces overwhelm. It makes you feel efficient.
- The “Golden Hour” Gratitude
As the sun sets, or even just before you wind down, take five minutes. Think about three specific things that went well today. They can be tiny. “My laundry dried.” “I got a good parking spot.” “I made it through another workday.” Acknowledge these small wins. It shifts your perspective. Focus on abundance, not lack.
- Choose Your Evening Wind-Down Wisely
Before bed, resist the endless scroll. Instead, choose an intentional wind-down. Read a few pages of a book. Listen to a calming podcast. Stretch gently. Brew a simple cup of chamomile tea. This prepares your body and mind for rest. It is an act of self-love. It closes your day with peace.
You Deserve an Intentional Life Too
You do not have to “earn” ease or joy. You do not have to earn beautiful moments. All these are things that you deserve because you are alive, breathing, and showing up. Do it even when you do not feel like it. That is the main character’s energy. You are not just surviving. You are curating. And that is powerful.
For too long, we believed life had to be hard to be meaningful. Joy was a reward for suffering. But what if joy is simply… available? What if ease is a choice? You can make it regardless of your external circumstances. This concept, an “intentional life,” is not about being lazy or unproductive. It is about consciously choosing to be the main character and romanticizing your life by prioritizing peace, clarity, and joy wherever you can find them.
Let go of the need for perfection. Embrace the beauty of what is. Maybe your apartment is not showroom-ready every second, but the sunlight streaming through a clean window in the afternoon is divine. Maybe your schedule is packed, but that 10-minute shower can be a moment of peaceful contemplation. You deserve to romanticize your life in these tiny, significant ways.
Use my personal growth planner and self-help journal to intentionally design your main character’s story. Think of it as your script. Your storyboard. Your director’s notes. All rolled into one. It’s a crucial tool. It helps you romanticize your life.
Here is how my personal growth planner and self-help journal can be your secret weapon.
- Setting Intentional Scenes (Daily Routines)
Do not just jot down appointments. Use them to plan your moments of romanticization.
- Morning Pages: Dedicate space each morning in your journals. Use it for “morning pages”. This is stream-of-consciousness writing. It clears your mind. Do not censor yourself. Just write whatever comes to your mind. This sets a reflective, intentional tone for your day.
- Micro-Moments of Joy: Schedule those upgrade “one everyday thing” moments. In your journal, write “Fancy water time @ 10 AM.” Or “Jazz music for dinner prep @ 6 PM.” Make it an intentional part of your day. You are more likely to do it.
- Plotting Your Character Arc (Goals & Aspirations)
The journals are perfect for outlining where you want your main character to go.
- Vision Boarding (on paper): Use a section of the personal growth planner. Sketch out or list elements of your ideal “romanticized life”. This could be feelings, experiences, or small luxuries you want to cultivate.
- Goal Breakdown: Break down bigger goals into smaller, manageable steps.
- Reflecting on Your “Episodes” (Weekly/Monthly Reviews)
At the end of each week or month, use your personal growth planner to reflect.
- Wins & Wonders: What moments did you successfully act like the main character or romanticize your life this week? What tiny joys did you notice? Jot them down. This reinforces the positive habit. · Lessons Learned: What could have been more cinematic? What felt rushed? Use these insights. Refine your approach. This is not about judgment. It is about continuous improvement in your narrative.
- Cultivating Gratitude (Your Soundtrack)
The self-help journal can be a dedicated space for gratitude.
- Daily Gratitude Prompts: Even if it is just three things, list what you are grateful for. This actively shifts your focus. Go from what is lacking to what is abundant.
- “Love Letters to My Day”: Do not just list things. Write a short paragraph. Explain why you are grateful for a specific moment. “Dear coffee, thank you for being perfectly warm and strong this morning. You gave me the courage to face my inbox.”
Final Thoughts
You do not need a new city. You do not need a new man, and you definitely do not need a matching PJs set to romanticize your life. Well, maybe you need all of those things. But the point is, what you need most is a shift. Change how you see yourself. Change how you see the world around you. Recognizing your life, in all its raw, unfiltered glory, as a masterpiece in progress.
If no one told you today, you are magic in motion. So, pour the juice into the wine glass. Wear your favorite body spray on a Tuesday. Cry dramatically in the mirror if that’s what you need.. It is all part of the plot. Every single moment, every single feeling, and every single step you take contribute to the incredible, unfolding story of you. You have the power. Use it to build a life that truly resonates with your soul.
