Switching to a DIY deodorant doesn’t have to mean sacrificing freshness. Many store-bought deodorants contain aluminum, artificial fragrances, and harsh chemicals that can clog our pores or irritate our skin.
With just a few natural ingredients, you can make a homemade deodorant that is gentle, nourishing, and effective, all while smelling amazing.
To make your own natural deodorant, you only need a few simple ingredients, most of which are inexpensive and easy to find.
Now, grab your water bottle or glass, pour yourself some fruit water (Yes, we stay hydrated here), take your notebook, and your emotional support lip gloss or balm, whatever works for you, and hit that share button floating right in front of your eyes.

ToggleWhy These Ingredients Work
- Shea Butter: Soothes and hydrates the underarms, reducing irritation from shaving or friction.
- Coconut Oil: Natural antibacterial, helping to prevent odor before it happens.
- Cornstarch/Arrowroot Powder: Absorbs excess moisture for a dry, and comfortable feel.
- Baking Soda: Neutralizes odor completely and keeps you smelling fresh all day. (This can be reduced for those with sensitive skin).

The Detox Phase Of a Homemade Deodorant: What to Expect
If you’ve been using commercial antiperspirants for a while, your body may take 1–3 weeks to adjust and detox. During this time, you may notice:
- Increased sweating. (This is normal as your pores unclog and detox).
- Stronger odor at first (This happens because the bacteria in your body is balancing out).
This recipe has been my deodorant for a while now. I always make a big jar that lasts me months. My hormones usually don’t allow me to use mild deodorants, so what always works for me is this strong recipe here.
If I make it lighter, I will find myself smelling in the middle of the day, and no one wants that.
I advise you to stay consistent with the recipe for your body to get adjusted, and soon, odor problems will be a thing of the past.
