Hey, friend! Full Transparency Before You Dive In:
Everything you find on this site, from feminine hygiene tips to DIY recipes and lifestyle advice, is based on personal experience, cultural practices, and over 15 years of doing it myself. I’m not a doctor, dermatologist, or licensed herbalist. I’m simply a mama, passionate DIYer, lifestyle author, and novelist, sharing what has worked for me and what’s been passed down through generations.
Please do your research, listen to your body, and always consult a qualified healthcare provider before trying anything new, especially when it involves your health, skincare, or wellness routine.
Also, some links on this site are affiliate links. That means I may earn a small commission if you purchase at no extra cost to you. But I only share products I’ve personally used, believe in, or know will bring value to you.
Now that we’ve got that covered, let’s get into the good stuff.
Easy Natural Deodorant That Actually Works
Switching to a natural deodorant doesn’t have to mean sacrificing freshness. Many store-bought deodorants contain aluminum, artificial fragrances, and harsh chemicals that can clog pores or irritate the skin. With just a few natural ingredients, you can make a deodorant that is gentle, nourishing, and effective, all while smelling amazing.
To make your own natural deodorant, you only need a few simple ingredients, most of which are inexpensive and easy to find. Below, I will add Amazon links for all the products you will need to make this. If you have any at home, you won’t need to get them, but if you don’t, kindly click the link below to get them and help this mama make some coins at no extra cost to you.
Why These Ingredients Work
- Shea Butter: Soothes and hydrates underarms, reducing irritation from shaving or friction.
- Coconut Oil: Naturally antibacterial, helping prevent odor before it starts.
- Cornstarch/Arrowroot Powder: Absorbs excess moisture for a dry, comfortable feel.
- Baking Soda: Neutralizes odor and keeps you smelling fresh (can be reduced for sensitive skin).
- Lime/ Lemon Essential Oil: Offers a refreshing citrus scent with antibacterial and anti-odor properties.
DIY Natural Deodorant Recipe
Ingredients:
- 2 tablespoons shea butter
- 2 tablespoons coconut oil
- 2 tablespoons cornstarch
- 3 tablespoons baking soda (reduce to half for sensitive skin)
- 10–12 drops lime essential oil
The Tools and Ingredients You Can Get From Amazon
Instructions:
- In a double-boiler pot, melt the shea butter and coconut oil using a double-boiler method
- Once melted, remove from heat and stir in the cornstarch and baking soda until smooth.
- Add the lime essential oil and mix thoroughly.
- Pour the mixture into a small jar or an empty deodorant container.
- Let it cool and solidify at room temperature or in the fridge.
How to Use
- Apply a small amount under each arm once or twice daily.
- A little goes a long way. Use just enough to lightly coat the skin.
- Store in a cool place. If it softens in warmer weather, simply pop it in the fridge for a few minutes.
Tips for Success
- If you experience any irritation from baking soda, cut the amount in half or substitute it with arrowroot powder.
- For a creamier consistency in cold weather, slightly increase the coconut oil.
The Detox Phase: What to Expect
If you’ve been using commercial antiperspirants, your body may take 1–3 weeks to adjust. During this time, you may notice:
- Increased sweating (normal as your pores unclog).
- Stronger odor at first (bacteria balancing out).
Tip: Stay consistent, it’s worth it for the long-term health benefits.
And just like that, another chat wraps up! It is always a pleasure spending time with you.
